Global Veterinary Dermatology Education Group becomes an Affiliate Member of the WAVD

Global Veterinary Dermatology Education GroupThe WAVD Administrative Committee has approved the Global Veterinary Dermatology Education Group (GVDEG) for Affiliate Status. GVDEG is a non-profit organization led by Drs. Sheila Torres (USA) and Chiara Noli (Italy) and comprised of veterinary dermatology specialists with the common desire to disseminate knowledge to veterinarians in underserved areas around the world. Dr. Ken Kwochka, WAVD President, acknowledged that "both organizations share a common mission so this collaboration is a perfect fit to help establish sustainable educational programs to allow veterinarians in underdeveloped areas to adequately manage the most common dermatological diseases."

In 2014, WAVD provided financial support for a GVDEG educational program with the Georgian Small Animal Veterinary Association in Tbilisi, Georgia. In May, further financial support from WAVD will enable a GVDEG program to be presented by Dr. Svetlana Belova in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Both of these areas are served by capable veterinarians with intense interest in dermatology but few options for educational programs taught by a board-certified veterinary dermatologist. Additional educational programs are planned for later in 2015 and beyond. GVDEG joins the International Committee on Allergic Diseases of Animals and the International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology as the third WAVD affiliated association.
