The World Association for Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD) awarded 30 scholarships for the recent World Congress in Veterinary Dermatology in Bordeaux. Each scholarship consisted of free, full Congress registration and an allowance towards travel and accommodation of 1000 US dollars. A wide range of nations were represented amongst the successful applicants with delegates from South Africa, Latin America (Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela, Mexico and Peru) as well as Eastern Europe (Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine) and Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and China). An official welcome reception for successful scholarship applicants was held on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at the official Congress hotel venue, Pullman Hotel, Bordeaux and was an opportunity for recipients to meet the WAVD committee and the other scholarship recipients.
WAVD offers financial support to encourage veterinarians with limited access to continuing education in veterinary dermatology to attend the World Congress. A particular emphasis is placed on providing veterinarians with genuine financial need the opportunity to participate. The WAVD aims to promote the global development of veterinary dermatology and expects that selected applicants will use knowledge and skills acquired at the Congress to advance veterinary dermatology in their geographic region. As part of the scholarship, recipients applicants will provide a written report to the WAVD Administrative Committee with an outline of how the applicant benefited from the scholarship and how their attendance was of benefit to their veterinary community.
